On behalf of the Australian Pain Society, we are delighted to invite you to gather on Larrakia country/Darwin, at the Darwin Convention Centre from 21 – 24 April 2024 for the 44th Annual Scientific Meeting.

It seems apt that our multidisciplinary society has chosen a rich multi-cultural and naturally beautiful location to inspire passion and learning in the management of pain and stimulate collaboration and connection between clinicians, researchers, educators, and students.

Joining us in the tropical Top End will be an exciting group of National and International speakers presenting a contemporary scientific program showcasing the breadth of pain management research, theory, and practice.  A highlight of the program is our two international keynote speakers, Professor Christine Chambers and Dr Cheryl Stucky.

Dr Christine Chambers is the Canada Research Chair (Tier 1) in Children’s Pain, a Professor of Psychology & Neuroscience and Paediatrics at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, and a clinical psychologist. She is also the Scientific Director of Solutions for Kids in Pain (SKIP) and serves as the Scientific Director of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research’s Institute of Human Development, Child and Youth Health.¿

Dr Cheryl Stucky is the Marvin Wagner Endowed Chair at the Medical College of Wisconsin where she is also Director of the Pain Division of the Neuroscience Research Center. Dr Stucky’s lab studies the molecular, cellular and physiological mechanisms of sensation, particularly how we sense touch and pain.

The 2024 ASM offers opportunity for an immersive experience in all things pain management through workshops, trainee and topical sessions, and an extensive industry exhibition. Join with colleagues in sampling a uniquely Darwin experience through our curated social program.

For those seeking a little more NT magic, the Darwin Waterfront adjacent to the Convention Centre offers a large range of food, drink, accommodation, and activities for families. The Historic Stokes Hill Wharf, also in walking distance, offers alfresco eateries, fishing, and cruising options. The Royal Flying Doctor Service Darwin Tourist Facility and Bombing of Darwin Attraction located on the wharf is also worth taking in. You can meet a crocodile at Crocosauras Cove within the Darwin CBD, enjoy the interactive shows, feed a juvenile crocodile, hold a baby croc - even swim in the tank with an adult croc! Markets, laksa’s, art galleries, sailing, festivals, sunsets…. the list is endless.

Fortunately, the 2024 ASM conveniently leads into the ANZAC day public holiday, offering you options to extend to your stay, explore, and create memories for a lifetime.

So please join me in beautiful Darwin, looking forward to meeting you there.
