As Chairperson of Pain Nurses Australia, it is my pleasure to invite you to our PNA Professional Day. We are excited to be able to join together again for this face to face event which will be held in Sydney on Friday 13th October 2023.
The theme this year is 'Catching up in Pain Management' and will cover a varied program from acute, chronic and palliative care pain issues. Speakers include an exceptional line-up of well-known speakers and the topics presented will be of interest to all healthcare clinicians interested in Pain Management. We look forward to you joining us.

Prof. Mary Chiarella

Professor Emerita, Susan Wakil School of Nursing, The University of Sydney
Mary has served as the Chief Nursing and Midwifery Officer at, NSW Health Department and as a Foundation Professor of Nursing in Corrections Health, with the University of Technology, Sydney. She was awarded an AM for significant contributions to nursing and midwifery education and healthcare standards in June 2019 Mary is the Deputy Chair of Northern Sydney LHD and chairs their Health Care Quality Committee. She also serves on the Australian Health Ethics Committee of NHMRC, the Health Ethics Advisory Panel to the NSW Minister for Health, and the Clinical Governance Advisory Committee to Healthdirect Australia. She serves the NSW Nursing and Midwifery Council as a panel and Tribunal member for impairment, performance, and conduct matters. Mary’s research interests focus on legal, policy, and ethical issues in nursing, midwifery, and health care delivery. She publishes and speaks nationally and internationally on her work. She has also undertaken a number of projects for the World Health Organisation and has been a Visiting Scholar to ICN.

Hayley has 20 years experience in nursing and has worked in wound care over this time. Hayley has a passion for healing wounds as a Clinical Nurse Consultant across Australia and New Zealand in private practice with her own company WoundRescue. Hayley has a wide range of postgraduate experience in wound management, while also completing a Master of Business Admin (MBA). Hayley is currently completing her PhD. Hayley has presented at national and international conferences and has a proven track record of providing advanced wound care and aged care education. Hayley also lectures at Universities and has been appointed as an adjunct fellow at the University of technology Sydney. Hayley is also chair of the board for Wounds Australia. Scott Oldman

Scott Oldman has worked in the NSW ambulance Service for 27 years. He is currently an intensive and extensive care paramedic and clinical training officer for the Mid North Coast NSW. Before working on the front-line he completed training as a registered nurse and worked in a busy Sydney emergency department.

Dr. Gavin Pattullo is an anesthetist and pain medicine physician. James Blogg is a senior staff specialist who works at Canterbury Hospital providing outpatient drug health clinics and at Concord Hospital supervising the detoxification ward and providing drug health consultations for inpatients including liaising with the Concord Pain Team. James is a Public Health Physician who has worked in opioid dependence for nearly 30 years. His work has previously focused on preventing HIV and HCV transmission amongst people who inject drugs (PWID) and their partners – usually in resource poor settings which included running a HIV prevention programme for PWID in Indonesia for 8 years. He has published articles on a range of public health topics and his current research projects include:
- investigating the clinical and service needs of people who use performance and image enhancing drugs in the Canterbury area
- use of microdosing to assist in high dose transfer from methadone to buprenorphine in inpatient and outpatient settings
- use of medical marijuana to assist with chronic pain and cannabis dependency

Kirsty-Leah Goymour
Child Life Therapist – SCH Randwick
Kirsty-Leah has a Bachelor of Teaching from UNE and has worked as a Child Life Therapist for 26 years in areas that include: emergency, Intensive Care, neurology and orthopaedics. Her practice involves providing patients and their families with therapeutic play opportunities, pain management strategies, procedural preparation and support and memory making. Currently Kirsty is manager of child life and music therapy and senior child life therapist for complex pain and palliative care at the Sydney Childrens Hospital, Ranwick, and has a keen interest in trauma informed care in the hospital setting, distraction for patient across the spectrum of pain and play and documenting of Life for palliative care patients.

David Anderson is CNC in the Complex Pain Service at SCH Randwick, a role he has been doing since 2009 and has presented at numerous conferences on paediatric pain management. Having trained in the UK he has worked in a variety of specialties which include anaesthetics and recovery, adult and paediatric ICU and paediatric cardiac / renal wards. David has a special interest in medication safety and paediatric transitional care and is an active member of ePPOC , ACI, APS PIC SIG and PNA committee
