ABOUT THE ROLE
We are looking for a candidate who is a quick learner with strong communication skills who can work
collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team. Any experience working in acute or chronic pain, pain
procedures, anaesthetic nursing, recovery, rehabilitation is advantageous but not essential.
We work with a socially disadvantaged, frequently distressed patient group especially in the chronic
complex pain context. We offer outpatient appointments, group programs, pain procedures and
ongoing support to aid recovery, so every day is different! The work is interesting and complex and
supported with plenty of opportunity for debrief, feedback and professional growth. There are no
afterhours/weekend shifts as part of this role.
Hunter Integrated Pain Service (HIPS) is a tertiary chronic pain service based at John Hunter Hospital.
We are an interdisciplinary team including pain medicine specialists, psychiatrist, nurses (CNC, CNS,
RN), clinical psychologists, physiotherapists, a social worker and dietitian. We have a holistic approach
and serve patients with chronic complex pain, end of life care pain and cancer pain, collaborating with
primary care and other specialist services in the Hunter New England Local Health District, including
acute pain services, drug and alcohol clinical services and rehabilitation services.
Senior team clinicians including allied health staff, senior nurses and medical staff will support the
successful candidate to settle into the role with adequate opportunity provided for regular feedback,
check-ins and debrief. Formal orientation will be provided and an observation period of 2-4 weeks as
supernumerary will be part of induction.
